Oh Sundaze: 04.25.21

Happy Sunday friends! I hope you had a fantastic weekend. It’s been a few since I’ve caught you up on what’s been going on over in my little corner of the universe so grab a cuppa and curl up! There’s been some celebrations and lots of DIY projects that I’m excited to share.

Tristan’s 24th birthday was this past Thursday and we celebrated on the day and on Saturday – she’s a lucky girl. On Wednesday night I stayed up to decorate for her and I pretty much did all the decorations myself using cardboard, paint, some craft paper, card stock and my cricut maker [all things I already had in my arsenal of supplies].

On Saturday Tristan’s Mom brought over this gorgeous double chocolate cake with buttercream icing and it was heavenly. We all enjoyed more than one piece – if that wasn’t already obvious lol.

There’s been some major DIY inspiration happening over here and I have a couple projects on the go. To start I’ve collected a handful of tree stumps/logs that I’m honestly not quite sure what to do with yet but I’m thinking something along the lines of an outdoor table.

The console table that we currently have I loath entirely so a quick scroll on Pinterest made me realize I could easily make my own with pieces of scrap wood I already have. I’m about half way done because the weather keeps delaying my progress but stay posted for a full post on what steps I took to build it and how you can do the same!

The inspiration

Ontario is still under a stay-at-home order so there’s not a ton to do but thankfully the greenhouses are still open and it’s nice to at least get out of the house & have a change of scenery. We picked up some grass seed to fill in some of the patchy spots in our yard but other than that they didn’t have much out yet. I did manage to find this super cute ivy wall that made the perfect backdrop for a photo!

We’re still steaming Shameless on Netflix and now we’re into season nine. With two more seasons to go I will admit that the show has started to slow down with the storylines of each character doing their own thing as opposed to being together as the Gallagher clan we know and love. Despite this I still really enjoy it and am excited to see it to the end.

I recently finished reading home body by Rupi Kaur which is the third book in her poetry series and I loved it just as much as her first two instalments. This book solidified the fact that everything I need to be successful & happy is already within me – where I am is where I’m meant to be. I’m not sure what I’m gonna read next because I have way too many books on my shelf waiting to be read but I’m thinking The Birth House by Amy McKay.

This past week I discovered my new favourite beauty product, the Kiss Falscara lash kit system. They’re salon quality lashes that you can do from home and also dupe as eyelash extensions! I love them so much I don’t think it’ll ever wear mascara again. Look out for a full review and how to to use these gorgeous lashes coming atcha this Tuesday!

That’s all I have for you this week my loves! Let me know what you’ve all been up to in the comment section!

Coffee Convos: quarantine style

Hi loves!

I hope you’re all keeping well and keeping busy while trapped in quarantine! It’s definitely been a change of pace [for myself included] and it’s honestly been nice to see the world slow down for a few weeks, despite the circumstances.

I thought that this was perfect time for a coffee convo catch-up, so I can fill you guys in on what I’ve been up to during this crazy pandemic, despite the days all seeming to blur into one lately. Cozy on up with a cuppa and settle in for a catch up!

plants everywhere

Since I’ve been off of work due to COVID-19 I’ve invested in so many little plant babies that I think I’m turning into the crazy plant lady.

I used to kill anything that was green either by giving it too much sun, not enough sun, too much water, or [you guessed it] not enough water. You can imagine how happy I am that I’ve had these plants for over 2/3 weeks and they not only are they still alive, they’re thriving.

getting creative

I’ve always had an on-going list of projects to try out but I never had time to get around to starting in on that list, until now.

I’ve managed to create some really cute decor pieces with picture frames that I already had and some cheap acrylic paint from the Dollarstore.

My sewing machine has definitely been getting its use over the past couple weeks! A lot of my friends and family have requested face masks so that they can keep themselves [and others] safe while out in public.

etsy shop update

I’ve been so blessed to have numerous Etsy orders come rolling in the past few weeks, and before quarantine got serious I did my absolute best to get all orders out on time. However, as the days went on Canada Post started limited International Shipping.

So in favour of the recommendations provided by the Government of Canada and the Ontario Provincial Government as well as the Ministry of Health, shipping out Etsy orders at this time is declared as NON-ESSENTIAL. I will still be taking orders and they will be back-logged unfortunately until advised otherwise.

Folding my box spring in half

Boy do I have a story for you guys.

When we moved into the apartment that we currently live in, the movers could not for the life of them fit our queen sized box spring through the door and down the staircase— there just wasn’t enough clearance. So it sat in our shed for about two months [in its original plastic packaging so it didn’t get damaged] and finally I decided that there had to be a way to get it in and also that I probably wasn’t the first person who has had this issue.

Where do I go when I need some inspiration to figure out a problem that I just can’t solve? YouTube. Because like I said— someone else was bound to have had the same problem and what do you know, I was right! I found a video right away that demo’d cutting and folding the box spring in half so that it was easier to maneuver and it would fit down the staircase.

  1. First I had to take off the back fabric piece that was covering the wood and metal frame
  2. Next I had to make one cut in each of the outer wood frame pieces halfway down the frame [vertically]
  3. Then with the help of my brother, we were able to bend the metal frame until the box spring was in half!

I really wish that I had pictures to share with you guys of this whole ordeal but once I set my mind to accomplish something, I don’t stop for anything. I’m so glad that this method worked, we really missed having the height to our bed— it makes all the difference and you couldn’t ever tell that our box spring was once folded in half.

If you want to see a video of this being done [so you can get a better picture of what I’m talking about] you can always hop over to YouTube and search “how to fold a box spring in half”.

Doula Training Started

EEEEKKKK! If you’ve been following me for a while you’ll know by now that my day-time job fuels a passion for maternity care that just keeps growing and with that my education!

The second week of March I officially started my Doula [aka maternal support practitioner] certification and I’m loving every second of it so far! It’s jam packed with knowledge and I am so confident that coming out of this I will know everything there is to know about the birth world.

Alright guys, that’s it for this coffee convo, I hope you got a laugh or two out of this post!

Coffee Convos: update on the daily chaos

Helllllo everyone!

I hope this post is finding you well, and that you’re all doing lovely. If you’re new here I’m Nicole and Coffee Convos is where you’ll find all my ramblings, thoughts, and updates on whats been going on in this crazy life of mine- its basically unscripted, if you will.

For those of you who are returning, welcome back! Cozy on up with a cuppa and settle in for a catch up with yours truly.

Settling in

Since the last coffee convos post we actually moved into our new home! We are so excited and happy with it, and are over the moon about how much we upgraded.

We moved in on January 30th (wow almost a month already!) and ever since we’ve slowly been settling in more and more, putting more and more on the walls and buying more furniture pieces. Whoever said Rome wasn’t built in a day was right, I never thought that I would still be decorating nearly a month after moving in!

We’re taking our time to really pick out furniture and decor pieces that work with the space, as well as spread out the expense of decorating the entire place at once. So far its been going great but I’m eager to declare when the apartment is fully settled so that I can give you all a home tour!

email subscription

In case you missed my announcement on social media, let’s catch up about my new email subscription list.

Since I have so many things on the go constantly from social media to the blog to the Etsy shop- it gets a little wild to keep up with sometimes on my end let alone yours! I thought that it would be easier to catch you up with what I’ve been up to on the interweb with weekly email updates!

The email structure will obviously be loose and depend on the content that I post weekly, but it will include:

  • all IG posts and blog posts that you may have missed
  • all my favourite products that are currently on sale
  • freebies and downloadable prints
  • and anything else that I feel is relevant to mention

If you’d like to subscribe to the email list click HERE.

stepping up my ig game

Thanks to many of the amazing bloggers that I follow sharing their tips and tricks for IG, I feel like I’ve been able to take my posts to the next level. My editing has gotten a lot better and I’m trying to stay within the same colour scheme, but that ones still a work in progress.

I’ve made a lot of head way when it comes to consistency on IG, if I don’t post on the grid I’m always posting stories! When it comes to the grid I make sure that I’ve been posting at least once weekly for the past couple of weeks and to my surprise the views to my page have gone up by 15%.

I’m going to continue to put in a daily effort to check in with IG, whether that means posting or commenting on others posts- because thats just as important. Hopefully we’ll see my following continue to grow and my content get more creative with each post.

Five and a half years!

As of February 17th, Tristan and I have officially been together for five and a half years! I can’t believe that it’s almost been six years, it’s true when they say that time flies when you’re in love with your best friend ♡

blogging goals

This year I really vowed to give my all to blogging and lately I’ve been able to outline some goals that I think are totally tangible.

+ beat my all time views per month from last year

+ raise my following

+ post a least two blog posts weekly

I have very high hopes that I’ll be able to reach all these goals- in fact I’m already seeing progress with my all time views goal!

Coffee Convos: hello 2020

Hello loves! ♥︎

I can’t believe that we are officially into 2020, an entirely new decade. I am so excited for the new year and I have so many exciting things to look forward to- a new year full of new things and new ideas coming to life.

This coffee convo is all about whats coming up in this new year, and I am so excited to share all the big news. Come join me, grab a nice hot cuppa and curl up for a catch up!

We’re moving again

Tristan & I are moving into a new place and we couldn’t be more excited! The space we are in now worked for the meantime and it was a great experience for our first time out on our own but our new place is definitely an upgrade.

We are moving this February and are in full on brainstorming mode for how we want the space to look! We’ve been constantly browsing through furniture and decor pieces for weeks now, and even managed to score a few things on sale throughout the holiday season.

Starting my doula training

The countdown to March is on, because that is when my doula (aka maternal support practitioner) training starts!

Ever since deciding what I wanted to do with my life during my last year of high school, working within the maternal world was always my plan and to finally see that coming to fruition in 2020 is absolutely soul-fulfilling.

Jumping into blogging and social media

This year I want to stay consistent when it comes to blogging and keeping up with social media. Over the course of this year I’ve found that there have been times that I’m very active on the blog and socials but then theres times where I completely ghost the internet world.

I want to figure out a proper blogging schedule over here on Nicole’s Niches so you all know when to expect posts and I’ll stop keeping you guessing! I also am making a vow to check in on the socials at least once daily.

new look + New series on the blog

If you haven’t noticed, I have officially dropped the “wordpress” from my URL. We are self hosted baby! Along with purchasing myself a domain, I also refreshed the look of Nicole’s Niches with a brand new theme. If you haven’t had a chance yet be sure to check it out!

With a brand new shiny domain and completely new look- comes new series that will be launching on the blog. I’m sure you all know by now that I’m extremely passionate about Home + Decorating so inspired by that I’m starting a new series on the blog that I’m sure will blossom into many others. Stay tuned for the launch, until then it’s a under wraps.

Podcast possibilities

Podcasts are seriously one of my favourite things to listen to, and I have always been intrigued when it comes to starting my own. I have thought about it a lot, have picked out a name, and even know exactly who I want as a co-host. However getting said person to agree and commit to said podcast is still in progress.

My favourite types of podcast to listen to is two friends (or group of friends) who just bullshit about everything and anything, tell funny stories about their lives, and spill the tea on celeb gossip and that is exactly what I want to do.

I’m hopeful that this dream of mine will come alive in 2020, I’m manifesting it so hard y’all.

Now you’re all caught up! Whats been going on lately with you guys? Let me know in the comment section below 🙂
