Favourite Amazon Finds of 2020

Hey loves! I hope you’re doing well and are as excited as I am about todays post!

During 2020 I did an excessive amount of retail therapy, as I’m sure most of you can relate to. My Amazon Prime Membership basically pays for itself every month because that’s how much I utilize their services and how frequently I place orders! I took a deep dive through all of my purchases over last year and it turns out that 2020 brought tons of items that are now daily essentials that myself and my household can not live without!

First up is a fashion find! These are my favourite leggings, they’re super comfortable with a stretchy work-out material and pockets! I love a good legging, but I love leggings with pockets even more.

This bluetooth smart scale is one of the coolest health and wellness finds of last year! Through an app in your phone the scale breaks down your weight into categories, so you can see what percentage is muscle, water, bone mass, etc. Plus it’s a extremely reasonable price and has a sleek modern design!

Another great health and wellness find! These exercise bands come in the cutest colours which coordinate with the strength of resistance. The best feature of these bands as opposed to others is the grip that it offers, so no matter what you’re wearing when you use them they won’t slip and slide around.

Last year I had to get a new laptop because my screen on my old one unfortunately bit the bullet. Although it was frustrating, the silver lining is that I got a brand new MacBook. The newest MacBooks don’t offer traditional USB ports, so I invested in this super small and sleek USB adapter!

Our home is [what I like to think] the definition of hygge; soft fuzzy blankets everywhere, fairy lights, and of course tons of candles. We were going through disposable lighters so quickly and it was a terrible waste. Enter this amazing rechargeable electric candle lighter! It’s the best investment and we use it every single day.

This is arguably my ultimate favourite amazon find from 2020. This drawer organizer [that’s also a Martha Stewart dupe] soothed my perfectionist soul and looks so nice in our silverware drawer.

When we got our Puppy, Penny, back in August we noticed she has a hard time pacing herself when it comes to eating [read inhaling] her food. Any fellow Boston terrier owners will know that this causes them to choke and ultimately could lead to their stomachs flipping. So we invested in these bowls for both of our girls and they work wonders!

These sticky tiles are really easy to use and make a statement wherever you choose to put them! Since Nate moved in with us [for those who are new here, Nate is my brother] we’re slowly transforming our girly guest room into something that’s more suitable for a 17 year old teenage boy. These worked perfectly to add a little unf until we can paint.

Tristan needed a new yearly/monthly planner for 2021 and of course the first place she looked was Amazon! She chose this one that has an adorable tropical pattern featuring monstera leaves.

These distressed mugs are so unique and totally fit my style aesthetic! They come in packs of four with lots of colour options- I have them in white, green, and yellow.

Last but not least this super handy outlet that ads additional outlets and also feature two USB ports so that you can put the bulky charging block in a drawer and forget about it!

I hope this post inspired you to grab one [or a few] of these great Amazon finds or to create your own compilation of Amazon buys/favourite from last year!

Talk soon loves xx

2020 Highlight Reel

Hey friends 🙂

It’s amazing that although this year was the furthest thing from ideal when I look back there is many good things worth celebrating! Over the last 12 months there’s been at least one occurrence per month that brought some positivity and joy back into our lives, today I thought that I’d share those moments with you. Let’s do it!

January

This year kicked off with birthday celebrations! I celebrated my 23rd birthday on the 10th and I got to pick up my new car on the same day. We celebrated my brothers 16th birthday on the 11th and the rest of the month went along as any other normal January.

2007 Ford Focus Sedan

February

At the beginning of February we moved into our nice new place! This was such a relief because not only were we majorly upgrading but we were getting away from our toxic landlords- see ya never!

March

Quarantine/lockdown number one started during March and we definitely took advantage of it when it came to our new home. We did a ton of decorating and it was nice to be able to spend so much time with Tristan.

April

In April we celebrated Tristan’s 23rd birthday during lockdown. Even though we couldn’t go out to celebrate we still made the most of it and I did my best to make it as special as I could!

May

This is the month that I jumped on the bandwagon and started buying plants. I had never been able to keep anything alive thus far but I figured quarantine was a good time to try and really learn about different plants and what they need to thrive.

June

The weather started to warm up this month and we took advantage of it! When we moved into our new place in February we gained a gigantic backyard but because of the snow we couldn’t really do anything with it. When the nice weather came we started to make it a more welcoming space.

July

In July we spent more time on the backyard projects and I bought even more plants. We were also able to get out of the house and go on a little adventure to our local lavender field- it was a much needed day/date.

August

In August we welcomed the cutest furry face into our family. Penny came home to us at just six weeks old and she was so tiny she basically fit into my hand. Eeeek I miss puppy days!

September

September is now a month that will hold a very special place in my heart. On the 5th of this month the absolute love of my life asked to spend the rest of our lives together and proposed during the middle of a photoshoot! It was magical and I can not wait to be a wife!

lesbian couple engagement

October

My favourite month of the year was spent decorating for fall, picking up lots of pumpkins, and many bonfires! I ate way too many marshmallows and s’mores, no regrets.

November

We got into the holiday spirit really early this year and went to visit our local greenhouse that is always done up to the max in elaborate Christmas decor!

Nicole at Bradford Greenhouses

December

We spent the last month of the year eating yummy food, having tons of hot chocolate, and enjoying time to relax [as much as one could during the holiday madness] before going back to everyday pandemic life.

What were the highlights of your year? I think it’s important to look back and recognize all of the good that has come out of a year we definitely did not see coming. It’s the little things that keep you going and remind you that there is a light at the end of the tunnel.

Stay well + talk soon loves.

Sundaze // 12.13.20

Hiii loves! I hope that you’re enjoying your weekend and have rested and recharged for the week ahead!

It’s been way too long since I’ve sat down and updated you with a chatty post about what’s new with me and let me just tell you it’s been very busy in this household. There’s been some big changes and some bumps in the road but there’s also been some pretty great moments and achievements that are definitely worth mentioning.

Let’s get into it! Grab a cuppa, curl up, and lets catch up!

Photo by Kaboompics .com on Pexels.com

New Roommate!

One of the biggest changes that occurred over the past month was my brother moving in with Tristan & I full time. It was definitely a sudden move however we are so happy to have him here with us! We’ve been working on slowly transforming our guest bedroom into something less girly for him, and it’s really coming along. We’ve ordered some pretty awesome electronic gadgets [that I’ll be sharing in a later post] and custom made a shelve to hang under his TV for his playstation and whatnot. We still have a few items to grab and check off the list but I think it’s looking really good!

Tristan’s Car Accident

On Wednesday last week, Tristan had a car accident very early in the morning and although she is okay [which ultimately is all that matters] her car is not.

We’re waiting to hear back but from our insurance company but from what we know of at this moment it sounds like it’s going to be a total loss. Bittersweet because we definitely had plans for her car to be passed down to me and kept in our family. On the bright side it’s looking like she is going to get a new car!

Officially Started the Rebrand

This past week I announced that I’ve officially started the rebrand roll-out for Cosy Culture Co previously known as Nicole’s Niches.

So far the process has gone really well! All my handles for socials are successfully switched over as well as my logos and branding.

The last bit that is yet to be complete is switching over the website domain which is coming up for renewal at the end of December. That will officially be the end of Nicole’s Niches and I’m so excited to move onto this new chapter!

New Partnerships

I’m excited to be working with not one but two new brands that I’m positive you guys will love as much as I do. Think home decor and the best tool to help you stay organized!

I’ll be doing an in-depth post on each company later this week, so keep an eye out for that as well as some exclusive discount codes available to my readers only.

Sales Sales Sales

Between Poshmark and Etsy orders I’ve been running to the post office a ton in the past few weeks, no complaints because I’m so grateful for every single order.

My all natural heating packs seem to be the most popular at this time of year and for good reason! They make great gifts or stocking stuffers and they’re great to invest in for yourself on those achy damp days!

In Other News

With COVID numbers rising significantly [it almost seems like daily now] here in Southern Ontario we’ve been doing our best to stay home as much as possible.

We’re officially in the grey zone and if cases don’t decrease and decrease now we will move into the red zone which means we will be moving into a province wide lock down again.

It does put a damper on the holiday festivities this year but I would rather do what we have to do so we can get back to normal as soon as possible.

What’s been going on with you? What’s the COVID situation where you live? Let me know in the comment section.

Stay well + stay safe loves.

Blogmas Posts 2019

Ton’s of gift guides with a couple of Christmas-y themed posts spaced out in between- last year was great but I’m challenging myself to balance out the gift guides with more seasonal inspiration for your home & leisure! Don’t get me wrong gift guides are amazing and I get a ton of ideas from them myself, however I feel more inspired this year to put out posts that are slightly more personable.

Are you participating in Blogmas this year?

Classic White Lanterns— a perfect decor piece this holiday season

Hey hey everyone! I hope you’re feeling holy jolly and embracing the holiday spirit! Shops everywhere has officially pulled out all the stops when it comes to their Christmas displays and if I couldn’t resist the lure of the home section before it’s game over now.

One item that I noticed is quite popular this year are gorgeous white lanterns that come in a variety of sizes and designs. I love lanterns because they can be switched up seasonally and you can add different types of accent pieces inside. Though I love lanterns all year round there’s something about white lanterns that emanates a Christmas feel. Here’s some of my favourite finds to get you the look we were going for this year! Easy to shop, with various price points and styles that encompass any decor style and budget!

Graceful Iron and Glass Lantern Winston

Rosalyn Piece Iron Lantern Set

Mud Pie White Washed Wood Beaded Lantern Set

Farmhouse Wood and Metal Lanterns in White

White Distressed Wood Lanterns

Glitzhome Farmhouse Wooden Frame Lanterns

2 Piece Metal Lantern Set Jeco Inc.

Most of the featured lanterns have a rustic/ farmhouse feel, made with real wood and distressed white paint. I think that’s my favourite look this season, you can’t go wrong with farmhouse decor because I swear it makes whatever space you’re in feel that much cozier. If you’re feeling adventurous you could also totally DIY you’re own white wooden farmhouse lantern and save a few bucks that way and it’s a small enough project you could easily complete it within an afternoon.

I can’t wait to show you more of my favourite decor for this Christmas but in the meantime be sure to tag me in your photo’s and posts so I can marvel at your holiday decor!

Raising the bar in 2020

Alright alright, I know I’m almost an entire month late with this one. But better late then never right?

I’m so excited to share the humongous goals I’ve set for 2020- this is going to be a year full of accomplishments and moving on to bigger and better things.

Be more consistent

When it comes to my blog and specifically social media, the one thing that I lack is consistency. I mentioned this a little bit in my last coffee convo’s post, but I’m reiterating it here in my goals for the year.

When it comes to blogging, IG, Twitter, etc– there are periods of time that I find I’m super active and posting daily (or a couple times a week when it comes to the blog) and then there are periods of time that I completely disappear from the social scene.

My goal for 2020 is to stop disappearing randomly on all of you. I’m going to aim to schedule posts so that I’m posting at least once daily on all the socials, and twice weekly on the blog. Scheduling posts ahead of time will help me keep up with providing content, and it will also help me to create content at times when my creativity is flowing instead of waiting for ideas to come when the day arrives.

Grow my audience

Over the course of 2020 I want to grow my audience and following on the blog and all my other social networks. I love that I have this platform to share all my crazy thoughts, connect with you all, and experience great opportunities! I consider you all close personal friends and I want to continue to inspire you, help you with DIY’s, and always keep you up to date on the latest happenings in my crazy life.

In this coffee convo’s post I talked about monetizing the blog, and when you monetize your blog there are new curve balls that you have to figure out how to navigate. One of the curve balls that I’m currently facing is monetizing the blog through WordPress Ads.

Another goal is to grow my audience over the course of 2020, increase my views and following, and get approved for WordPress Ads. This will be awesome financially, ya girl is still paying off those student loans and saving for a house!

Read more books

Last year I honestly picked up a book once or twice and I sure didn’t come close to completing my 2019 Reading Challenge on GoodReads. This year I want to read more books and it should be easy because I have 4 or 5 new (aka thrifted) books currently sitting in a box that I have yet to read.

My goal for 2020 is to read at least 5 books, follow along my profile on Goodreads and make sure that I’m making progress!

Put more away in savings

Last year was an okay-ish year when it comes to putting money away into my savings account. This year I’m kicking it up a notch and working extra hard to save that down payment money for our house!

Every paycheque that I receive this year, I am automatically putting 20% of it into my savings account. This way I know that I’ll be contributing every two weeks and it will be an amount that I can afford while still being able to pay bills and buy coffee/takeout or whatever else I want/need.

I’ll be sure to update you all throughout the year to let you know how the 20% method is panning out, I have pretty high hopes!

Pay off student loan

For anyone else who went to post secondary and had to get a student loan, you feel my pain. So worth it, but gawd does it ever totally suck. And the interest?!? Don’t even get me started.

I am so hopeful that this will be the year that my student loan will officially be paid off. I have been out of school for two full years now, but just recently my Dad and Step-Mom offered to start contributing to help pay it down faster- they are honestly the best ever and I couldn’t be more grateful.

Grow the Etsy shop

I talked about growing the Etsy shop and what’s to come a little bit in this post, it’s going to be a big year for our little shop with lots of new products!

As you all know we are moving (in less than a week, eeekkk!) and the new place has an awesome shed that we are turning into our little workshop. Bigger decor pieces are coming your way and we are so excited.

Along with bigger decor pieces, I am experimenting with stationary products– I have the honour of doing the stationary for one of my very good friends wedding next year so stay tuned for all the prettiest paper things.

We’re doing decor, we’re doing stationary, we’re sowing lots of things and we’re rolling out knitted + crocheted products! So excited and so busy. Stay tuned.

Complete my Doula training

This March I’m starting my doula training and I can not wait! The course is online, and it is 16-weeks long although I actually have up to two years to complete it. It’s a very interactive course and I’m so excited to meet like minded individuals who are just as passionate about the maternal field as I am.

My goal is to complete the course within the 16 weeks that it’s running and have my first client by the end of 2020! I know that it’s going to be hard work and require a lot of focus but I believe that among all the other things that I have going on I’ll be able to prioritize and get it accomplished.

2020 is going to be a crazy, amazing, chaotic, lovely year full of growth and prosperity– I can’t wait to see what it has in store. What your goals for 2020? Let me know in the comment section below!

As always,

Nicole

Tristan & I are moving into a new place and we couldn’t be more excited! The space we are in now worked for the meantime and it was a great experience for our first time out on our own but our new place is definitely an upgrade.

We are moving this February and are in full on brainstorming mode for how we want the space to look! We’ve been constantly browsing through furniture and decor pieces for weeks now, and even managed to score a few things on sale throughout the holiday season.

Starting my doula training

The countdown to March is on, because that is when my doula (aka maternal support practitioner) training starts!

Ever since deciding what I wanted to do with my life during my last year of high school, working within the maternal world was always my plan and to finally see that coming to fruition in 2020 is absolutely soul-fulfilling.

Jumping into blogging and social media

This year I want to stay consistent when it comes to blogging and keeping up with social media. Over the course of this year I’ve found that there have been times that I’m very active on the blog and socials but then theres times where I completely ghost the internet world.

I want to figure out a proper blogging schedule over here on Nicole’s Niches so you all know when to expect posts and I’ll stop keeping you guessing! I also am making a vow to check in on the socials at least once daily.

new look + New series on the blog

If you haven’t noticed, I have officially dropped the “wordpress” from my URL. We are self hosted baby! Along with purchasing myself a domain, I also refreshed the look of Nicole’s Niches with a brand new theme. If you haven’t had a chance yet be sure to check it out!

With a brand new shiny domain and completely new look- comes new series that will be launching on the blog. I’m sure you all know by now that I’m extremely passionate about Home + Decorating so inspired by that I’m starting a new series on the blog that I’m sure will blossom into many others. Stay tuned for the launch, until then it’s a under wraps.

Podcast possibilities

Podcasts are seriously one of my favourite things to listen to, and I have always been intrigued when it comes to starting my own. I have thought about it a lot, have picked out a name, and even know exactly who I want as a co-host. However getting said person to agree and commit to said podcast is still in progress.

My favourite types of podcast to listen to is two friends (or group of friends) who just bullshit about everything and anything, tell funny stories about their lives, and spill the tea on celeb gossip and that is exactly what I want to do.

I’m hopeful that this dream of mine will come alive in 2020, I’m manifesting it so hard y’all.

Now you’re all caught up! Whats been going on lately with you guys? Let me know in the comment section below 🙂

As always,

Nicole
