Popular Home Decor Trends [2]

Still standing as my most popular blog post is the popular home decor trends round up, however that was all the way back in 2019! Over two years ago! Time really does fly and while that blog post is still being viewed by tons of you regularly, I thought that it was time to bring it up to date. Some trends are timeless and therefore you can still apply some of the decor elements highlighted in the original home decor trend post. For the most part though, interior design is consistently changing and evolving season to season and definitely from year to year. I’m super excited to review the most recent home decorating trends with you that I personally believe we will be seeing a lot of in 2021.

Lots of Colour

Last year was all about muted tones and neutral palettes which matched most our moods and made sense to create a soothing environment at home while the outside world was pure chaos. Everyone was just trying to get by in 2020 but we’re seeing a shift with the new year and the COVID-19 vaccine becoming available to the public, slowly but surely. There’s hope in the air and bright pops of color help reflect the positive energy we’re all manifesting while somehow signifying the growth last year brought.

Colour Blocking

Long live the days of fully painted accent walls, we’re moving into a new generation of dynamic and vibrant colour blocks with minimal wall decor! It’s truly incredible how much influence a bold colour block brings into a space, it livens up even the darkest of rooms or can create a moody vibe in your already brightly lit spaces. You can get so creative when it comes to design– extremely simple, unique geometric, incorporate arches, use shape or abstracting lines.

Coloured Furniture

An era has returned and no, you aren’t looking at your grandmas old couch! Beautiful shades of deep greens, butterscotch yellows, and mauve purples have been flooding my feeds and are taking up space in most bohemian styled homes. Couches in every colour of the rainbow can liven up your living area and give it a dose of drama and personality- it will definitely be the wow factor of the room.

Oversized Couches

Comfortable yet chic is a trend that was prominent all throughout 2020 and we’re seeing it being carried through to this year as well. Sectional couches in particular are becoming a living room stable for multiple reasons– they’re usually deeper than the average couch therefore giving the oversized feel, can be configured in multiple ways, and typically are available in a variety of price points. Win/win/win!

The most popular oversized sectional sofa is the cloud sectional from RH and with good reason, however the price tag is hefty. I’ve rounded my favourite dupes for the famous sofa that are a third, if not half the price with all the same coziness!

  2. Modular Urban Sectional
  3. Cameron Reversible Modular Sectional with Ottoman
  4. Lounge II Sectional Sofa
  5. Lianne Reversible Sectional
  6. Lumin White Line Sectional Sofa

Natural Elements

Nature inspired design is a timeless trend with a style that is everlasting. From wood, glass, and wool to seagrass and wicker, natural materials breathe new life to the home. Most decor pieces that are designed with nature in mind emulate a very neutral and versatile tone that helps to bring a balance to all the pops of colour we’re seeing in most homes. Versatile trends my favourites because it resonates with so many of you, whether your style is glam, modern, boho, farmhouse, or rustic!

Wood is just so warm and I’m all about warm, cosy spaces in the home. The texture and grain of wood also bring organic interest into a room, while giving off that inviting lived-in feeling.

Decorating with glass accent pieces makes a space feel bright and airy. The translucency of the material allows light to flow while also giving you something visually pleasing to look at. I love that glass decor is extremely versatile as well and can be used in multiple different ways, the most popular being vases and glass bottles.

Add instant natural texture into your home with wicker, rattan, or seagrass! The options are plentiful and include everything from light fixtures and seating to baskets and decorative trays. Wicker in particular is super light, durable, and can be used as indoor and outdoor furniture- not to mention the relaxing vibes it brings to any space you incorporate it into.

Texture and Layers

The coziest spaces are generous on the layers! A common theme you’ll see throughout homes this year is patterned throw blankets, tasselled pillow shams, and plush designer rugs. These are the items that are often overlooked but can be the pièce de résistance and really make a room feel complete.
