When its time to call it a day and crawl into bed, I absolutely can’t fall asleep unless I do all of the things that make me feel cosy, safe, and generally sleepy AF. I know that I can’t be the only one with a bedtime routine, but I also know that Morning Routine posts normally dominate the blogging scene- today I thought I’d share the opposite side of the spectrum.

Here’s What I do to get Ready for Bedtime!
Skin Care
This is something that I really want to work on this year, I tend to only stick to a routine when my skin is giving me issues. I know that later down the line when my skin starts showing its age I’ll seriously regret not having a consistent skin care regiment. Since March and the first initial lockdown I’ve worn makeup a handful of times and it’s honestly been so refreshing and good for my skin but I’ve also invested in a few new products. If you want to know more about the products that I use you can read more about it in detail here!
Vitamins + Medication
After I’m done taking care of my skin I typically will take my multivitamin, vitamin D, as well as my medication! This step is crucial for my mental health and I’ve always made this a priority even though I don’t highlight it on the blog very often.
Let my Dogs Out
Before we all go to bed for the night, I let the girls outside to use the bathroom for the last time. Given it’s the dead of winter this is usually quick because just like their Mum’s they absolutely do not like the cold!
White Noise
There are two type of people: those who need complete silence to fall asleep and those who can’t fall asleep without noise in the background. I’m the latter, but to the extreme. I ask my Google Home to turn on the white noise feature which plays on an endless loop and then I turn my stand-up fan on- partly for background noise but also because Tristan and I both get really warm when we sleep. I’ve had my Lasko fan since two summers ago and it’s still going strong!
Heating Pad
Heat is probably one of the most soothing things and I always use it when I’m falling asleep. I put it on any sore muscles or use it for warmth during these chilly Canadian winter nights.
Turn on Some Netflix
Our Roku smart TV is super smart so we use the remote on our phones to go straight to Netflix. We generally put on something funny, light, and mindless to fall asleep to and its usually Modern Family ever since Netflix removed Friends from its services.
Hydrate
Another goal that I want to work on this year is being more conscious of my water intake, because if I didn’t remind myself it would be coffee all day everyday. I make it a goal to at least drink one small glass of water in the evenings while I’m prepping for bed and I find that when I use my Yeti I’m more enticed because it keeps it nice and cold.
Scroll scroll scroll
At this point it’s usually 10-10:30pm and I’ll lay on my phone scrolling on social media or reading blog posts for about an hour. I find that when I read before bed whether that be a book or my WP reader it makes my brain and eyes sleepy, making it easier to doze off.
Xx

I’ve thought about posting a bedtime routine recently as well!! I love that you posted this because I also have such a consistent routine that I have to do to get a good night’s rest. I’ve never thought about taking melatonin, but that’s such a good idea especially since I wake up pretty exhausted every morning. White noise is a must! I typically just use a white noise machine, but in the summer, we’ll have the machine plus a fan going lol. I literally can’t sleep without the white noise now. Thanks for sharing!!

I would definitely love to read your bedtime routine! Melatonin helps for me & lavender essential oil is a god sent. No white noise = hours trying to fall asleep!!! You should 100% share your bedtime routine I’d love to read it!

Your sleep routine sounds like a dream compared to mine! I try and try to have a routine but I watch my 2 nephews and they like to test their auntie. haha
I start by getting them to go say goodnight to their great grandparents and grandma.
I get them to go to their room, we read 2-5 books (depending on how tired they are or hyper).
I get them to lay down and I put on one movie and by the middle or even sometimes the beginning of the movie, they are both or sometimes one of the boys is knocked out.
When that happens, the T.V. goes off and their night light goes on.
Then this auntie goes to bed, turns on her podcast (I put a sleep timer on it also for 30 mins) and I knock out for the night.
Not the best routine but it works for me. 🙂

I need to have my ipad playing a show at night, too. My boyfriend has adapted this from me like you & the fan! That is so funny how relationships work. & i agree about broken sleep– it’s the worst & makes me so exhausted. It’s def true you sleep better next to a loved one. ♡

I have the habit to stop watching TV and stop using my phone minimum 30mins before going to bed. To make sure I do and to be sure I get into a relaxing mode, I take my shower before going to bed 🙂

This is a great routine! One of my big things before going to bed is hydrating too. I know some people don’t so they don’t have to go in the middle of the night but I’ve never had that problem haha. Thanks for sharing such a cozy routine x
