7 things I’ve done that’s changed my skin

Hello loves! Today I’m venturing out and talking about skin care which is a topic that rarely sees the light of day on this blog. Mainly because up until a few months ago I didn’t have a skin care regime (horrible, I know) and I’m still learning and understanding what each product does for the skin.

Luckily with a lot of help from my fellow bloggers and some Youtubers I’ve collected a handful of great tips that I’ve been implementing and actually seeing results!

Before we jump in I just want to note that this regime might not work for everyone; I have oily skin therefore I find these products cater to that aspect however don’t knock it until you try it!

Cleanse morning and night using cleansing brush for at least 60 seconds

One day while going down the YouTube rabbit hole (as one does) I came across the beauty channel LaBeautyologist- The Golden Rx and in the few videos that I watched she taught me so much!

She talks about how important it is to not only cleanse your face but to do so for 60 seconds. Think about it, when it comes to hand hygiene the golden standard is 60 seconds in order to efficiently clean any dirt/bacteria. So why should washing our face be any different?

If you want to be extra thorough (like I am) you can opt to use this facial cleansing brush to make sure that you’re really working in the product. It also feels soooooo nice, like a mini facial massage!

Exfoliate daily

I used to think that exfoliating was something you did here and there, ya’know like maybe once a month. I think I was under this impression because St. Ives apricot scrub did so many people wrong, lol.

I’ve since learned that exfoliating not only helps to buff off the dead layers of skin (promoting new cell growth) but it also helps to prep your skin for whatever products you like to use in your skin care routine. This helps the skin absorb the product and you get more bang for your buck!

I love coffee scrubs (although scrubs aren’t the greatest on the skin) but I also lean towards serums. I love this one!

Tone twice morning and night (or between products)

I was shocked to learn how important toning is! Not only does it help to balance out the skins pH level, it too helps to prep the skin for your skin care products.

The trick to toner is to remember that it should be giving something to the skin as opposed to stripping it of natural oils. I’ve definitely learned this the hard way because witch hazel was my go-to. Instead opt for a moisturizing toner!

Moisturizer twice daily

The more moisture you can give your skin, the better. The skin needs water to thrive, so when your skin is dehydrated things start to go down hill such as the ability for bacteria to penetrate the skin thus causing breakouts.

I’ve been using this moisturizer for almost a year now, I love that it’s formulated specifically for people who have oily skin and doesn’t dry tacky!

Pimple patches instead of picking

Who else is guilty of picking their blackheads? I know we all do it, how else would we get rid of them? Enter pimple miracle patches, the one and only product that has prevented me from picking at my skin.

These patches come in two sizes (small & large) and you can buy boxes with the quantity of patches that you feel fits your needs. Boxes that you can currently purchase contain either 12, 24, or 96 patches of both sizes.

Vacuum extractor for blackheads

This little tool helps curve picking blackheads as well. It’s much more gentle on the skin and pulls out the dirt & bacteria with ease, especially after a hot shower when my pores are open.

This is the one I have and I love it! It comes with multiple different sized attachments to get into any crevice (chin, nose, etc) and is very easy to take apart and clean.

  1. One thing that has transformed my skin is wearing less makeup. Since I’ve been working home for the last 6 months I have really cut down wearing makeup. Its helped my skin to breathe and get the air it needs. The less chemicals I put on my skin the better!
Thanks for sharing these great tips!

  2. […] This is something that I really want to work on this year, I tend to only stick to a routine when my skin is giving me issues. I know that later down the line when my skin starts showing its age I’ll seriously regret not having a consistent skin care regiment. Since March and the first initial lockdown I’ve worn makeup a handful of times and it’s honestly been so refreshing and good for my skin but I’ve also invested in a few new products. If you want to know more about the products that I use you can read more about it in detail here! […]
